Can we stop blaming Instagram’s algorithm?
It’s so easy to play the victim game on Instagram…“oh the Algorithm has changed and I’m no longer getting as much likes and engagement as I did before”.
There has been no algorithm changes.
On January 22 2019, Instagram noticed an uptick in posts about Instagram limiting the reach of your photos to 7% of your followers.
They tweeted about this and said:
… and also:
There has been NO Instagram Algorithm changes from any credible sources as we’re writing this.
Even if there was algorithm changes? Can we stop focussing on it?
So…Why does it feel like my content isn’t being seen by so many people?
Have you thought about the time of the year when you’re not getting as much reach? Is it school holidays? Are you not posting at optimal times?
Maybe, it’s because there’s so many more people using Instagram today?
As of June 2018 (according to TechCrunch 2018), Instagram has reached the 1 billion monthly active user mark. 5 years ago? In June 2013, Instagram had 130 million monthly active users.
So, that’s a dramatic difference.
Or… Maybe your content isn’t up to scratch?
Ask yourself the following questions:
Are you adding value to others in your posts, or is it all about you/your business?
Are you posting the same ol’ thing and people are getting bored of it?
Are you generating comments on your posts?
Are you giving with thoughtful comments?
Are you posting at optimal times of the day?
6. Are you being consistent & active?
7. Are you consistently posting on Instagram Stories?
8. Are you utilising IGTV?
9. Are you doing Instagram Lives?
10. Are your captions compelling enough?
11. Are you collaborating with others?
12. Are you using the right hashtags?
So now that you know, it’s time to stop blaming the algorithm and take ownership over your own business.
